Regional Events Start-up Program

Events Tasmania's Regional Events Start-up Program is a new initiative designed to encourage new events and support minor existing events that are moving to the next level. The program will financially assist approved events over three event years while the event becomes self-sustainable and financially viable. In particular it aims to support events outside the Greater Hobart area that are uniquely Tasmanian and that add variety to the existing events calendar.

The expression of interest period for this program closed on 20 November 2015.

Available funding

The Regional Events Start-up Program will allocate funding of up to $610 000 over three event years (depending if your event is annual or biennial). Individual events can apply for a maximum amount of $150 000 over these three event years on a reducing scale. It is anticipated that most applicants will require a larger proportion of funding in the first year to establish their event.

Successful projects will enter into a formal funding agreement with the Tasmanian Government that will contain payment milestones. Funding will be provided in instalments upon the achievement of these milestones.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Regional Events Start-up Program:

  • The event you are applying for must not be currently receiving any other Events Tasmania funding.
  • Funding is for organisers whose inaugural event is held before the end of 2017.
  • Your event must be held annually or biennially (funding is not available for one-off events).
  • You must demonstrate that your event and event team meets the assessment criteria outlined.
  • Your event must be held outside the Greater Hobart area.

Assessment Criteria

Applications are assessed under a two-stage process involing an expression of interest and then an event plan. Both stages will be evaluated against the following assessment criteria:

  1. The quality of the event concept, including the event being original and uniquely Tasmanian.
  2. The extent to which the event helps achieve Events Tasmania's focus for getting people to Tasmania, getting Tasmanians moving around the state and getting people talking about Tasmania.
  3. The capacity of the organisers to develop and deliver a successful event.
  4. The extent to which target markets for the event have been identified and a clear plan is in place to promote the event to these target markets.
  5. The financial viability of the event and the ability of the organisers to ensure that the event is sustainable beyond the Regional Events Start-up Program funding period.
